Seated concert
Jazz at MUNCH is a concert series with roots going back to the 1960s, programmed in collaboration with Oslo Jazzfestival.
Welcome to a unique double concert with two leading examples of successful genre blending in Norwegian music, Erlend Apneseth Trio and Masåva. This evening will give you a rare insight into how the traditional roots of folk music can grow in unexpected new directions.
Erlend Apneseth Trio is one of Norway’s most innovative and active bands, combining the sound of traditional Norwegian folk music, jazz and electronica in a unique way. They have received fantastic reviews as well as several awards and nominations for their four albums released on the renowned record label Hubro. The trio consists of Erlend Apneseth (Hardanger fiddle), Stephan Meidell (guitar/effects), and Øyvind Hegg-Lunde (percussion)—three highly respected musicians with an improvisational approach that makes each concert a unique experience. You could say the trio create a new form of Norwegian folk music that travels from sunlit, utopian tones to dark, noir-like landscapes.
Erlend Apneseth – Hardanger fiddle, Stephan Meidell – guitar and effects, Øyvind Hegg-Lunde – percussion.
Masåva make acoustic soundscapes powering forwards with shimmering vocal harmonies. Masåva finds itself somewhere between folk songs, folk tunes, and jazz, where honest lyrics, catchy riffs and moving melodies can melt stone. Thoughtful lyrics about humanity as a species and an individual, belonging to an environment, and all-consuming love from a young mind play a central role. This comes through in the alternately dreamy and more forceful hypnotic soundscape. In the autumnof 2024, they released their third album, Dagen vi så på skatere on Braveheart Records, to fantastic reviews.
Selma French Bolstad - vocals, fiddle, guitar, Solveig Wang - synth, vocals, Martin Morland - double bass, vocals, Øystein Aarnes Vik - drums, vocals.
