Sigurd Wongraven (Satyricon) & Morten Andersen in Conversation

Where is the music in Edvard Munch’s paintings, and how do you go about adapting paintings and drawings into a piece of music? Can you take pictures of music? Just some of the questions to be explored in this conversation between Sigurd Wongraven (vocalist and guitarist in Satyricon) and music photographer Morton Andersen.

The conversation will be held in Norwegian, and followed by book signing.

The Satyricon & Munch exhibition consists of a selection of Munch’s pictures and a new composition by black metal musician Sigurd Wongraven. The project is the result of many visits to the museum’s storage rooms, location recordings and studio processing, as well as encounters with musicians and staff at the museum, plus visits to Munch’s houses at Ekely and Åsgårdstrand.

The work he has been doing also forms the starting point for a photography book by Morten Andersen, who has translated the musical and curatorial process into a visual composition. In this talk Wongraven and Andersen will discuss the path they have taken from the original idea to the eventual exhibition and book, as well as how the sounds and images relate to each other. The conversation will give a unique insight into completely different working methods, as well as two contrasting creative approaches to Munch’s art.

Moderator is Heidi Bale Amundsen from MUNCH, an art historian who has edited Andersen’s photo book accompanying the exhibition, Satyricon & Munch.
