Edvard Munch is not only Norway's greatest artist, but also the only one to have conquered a place in global culture. Stormen tells the story of a precocious artist who, after turning Kristiania upside down with boundary-breaking paintings, takes over the European continent as a provincial power from the north.
The first volume follows Munch up to 1902. After growing up marked by illness and his father's rebellion, he had his breakthrough with Det syke barn in 1886. In the following years, he moved restlessly between Norway, Germany and France. From the time he picked up the brush, Munch lived life as if in a storm where art came before everything. The women who loved him noticed. So did the family he fled from all his life, but without him ever breaking the nerve ties that bound them together.
In the Storm. In a biography of Edvard Munch, Ivo de Figueiredo has reviewed known and new sources and written a close and magnificent portrait of the enigmatic artist and his time.
