Daniel Mariblanca: Made In Self Performance

Daniel Mariblanca/71BODIES presents a new and intense contemporary dance concept that will be felt physically in the body

Due to illness, some changes have been made to the performance. Each performance will last 1 hour without a break. The performance at 20:00 on Sunday lasts about 2 hours including a break as it contains an extra solo by Maria Perkances and an after-talk. Scroll down for more details on each performance.

As a transgender man I do not want to assimilate the toxicity of hegemonic masculinity. I am interested in expressing the notion of masculinity from an intense, yet sensitive perspective.
- Daniel Mariblanca

With his award-winning contemporary dance company, 71BODIES, Daniel Mariblanca has made it his trademark to break through imposing societal gender roles. Art and activism is combined in the company’s use of art as a transformative tool to engage in progress and development in society.
For ‘Made In Self’, Mariblanca has collaborated with four performers within contemporary dance and “extreme performance”. ‘Made In Self’ is a curated concept consisting of three independent solos and one duo, showcased through six performances over three days at MUNCH.

Common to the four works is a deep and intense desire to break boundaries, liberate the body from stereotypes, and unfold new forms of masculinity. By intertwining sound, movement, images, and video, honest and intimate portraits are created, and will not leave the audience unaffected.

The Berlin-based music producer and songwriter Florian Doerrhoefer performs live music for all the performances. He is signed as songwriter with Sony Publishing Germany and has previously collaborated with Daniel Mariblanca/71BODIES on the productions In First Person and NORMAL.
'Made In Self' is a result of Daniel Mariblanca's role as a guest curator for CODA 2024 and is a co-production between 71BODIES, MUNCH, and CODA Oslo International Dance Festival.

Maria Perkances - Solo, NB! extreme performance
Miss Perkances uses his body in a transgressive way. A coded body since his spinal cord fracture, and crippled with his left heel distortion, Maria attempts not only to exorcize his suffering, but to go beyond the limits of his resistance. Only through the catharsis of performance and ritual is it possible to escape the obstacles imposed by society and the tyranny of gender.
