Munch by Steffen Kverneland

Steffen Kverneland's Munch is a biography in comic book form. The portrayal is based on quotes from Munch's own writings and contemporary depictions of his life and career. Kverneland is one of the country's foremost comic artists – and with this work, he elevates the medium to a new level.

In addition to being an excellent introduction to Munch's life and work, the book is a group portrait of the artistic bohemians of Scandinavia at the turn of the century, a period in which modernism was, in many ways, created and defined by Nordic artists.
