Follow the pulse of Edvard Munch’s life, get to know one of Germany's most famous living artists, and experience the almost unreal in the second edition of the MUNCH Triennale. Kids will get an explosion of colour in this year’s exhibition for children.

We kick off the year with Feet First, the most comprehensive exhibition of Georg Baselitz in Norway. Kerstin Brätsch invites you into a radical universe of colours and sensory expressions, before Kiyoshi Yamamoto creates a vibrant meeting place for children in You Are What You Is.

Over the summer, we will feel the pulse of Edvard Munch. Lifeblood traces the theme of birth, death, sickness and health in the midst of the profound changes brought about by modern medicine.

The autumn begins with Lawrence Abu Hamdan, inviting you to hear the way 250-metre tall wind turbines blend with everyday sounds and impact on a local community. The second edition of the MUNCH Triennale will showcase works from over 20 artists, exploring the spaces between reality and virtuality. Towards the end of the year, you can discover the master, Ludvig Karsten, often compared to Edvard Munch, who offers fresh perspectives on Norwegian modernism.

The world's biggest collection of Edvard Munch

At MUNCH, you can always experience the breadth of Edvard Munch's artistic legacy. Get close to world-renowned masterpieces and discover hidden gems. In addition to our exciting programme featuring modernism and contemporary art, you can delve into Edvard Munch's art and life in our ongoing collection displays.

International activity

The National Portrait Gallery in London recently announced its programme for 2025, with the exhibition Edvard Munch Portrait as a major highlight. The exhibition runs from 13 March to 15 June 2025. MUNCH is contributing a substantial loan of ten familiar and lesser-known portraits painted by Edvard Munch.

During 2025 MUNCH will also be lending works to exhibitions at Harvard Art Museum in Massachusetts, Foundation Beyeler in Basel, and Buffalo Art Museum in New York.

In 2025, MUNCH will continue to share Edvard Munch with the world through significant loans and collaborative exhibitions.

Music, performance and conversations

What goes on in the spaces between art forms, and how do artists represent their own time through music, performance, conversation, and other forms of expression?

Our conversation programme offers unique insights into the artistic practices, themes, and processes behind the exhibitions. In 2025, we will host an expanded programme linked to Lifeblood and the MUNCH Triennale.

MUNCH's focus on performance art allows the audience to experience works that explore the intersections between visual art, dance, music and more. In 2025, Harald Beharie will create a new indoor version of the acclaimed performance piece Undersang. Lawrence Abu Hamdan will also present a performance in connection with his solo exhibition.

Our music programme celebrates and explores sound – from innovative pop and cutting-edge jazz to experimental club music. Keep an eye on our calendar and social media for updates on our music programme.

Kids at MUNCH

Magical encounters with art – at children's level.

Keywords for 2025 are joy in painting and colour! We’re expanding our Sunday activity programme for kids and families, offering innovative workshops and tours all year round.

Our youngest visitors, aged between 6 and 24 months, can come to Sense Play, our explorative baby workshop. Here, babies can experience various sensomotor and creative activities such as painting with natural and edible ingredients.

In January, we’re launching our own children’s book about Mr Storm, the little painter mouse: Pjotr Sapegin’s A Mouse In Munch’s House. We’ll also be offering many more playful and inspiring ways of experiencing the museum’s diverse collection throughout 2025!

Teenagers at MUNCH

A space where young people can gather, be creative, and bond through shared art and cultural experiences.

In 2025, we will highlight community and unity as central themes. We’re inviting our teenage audience to shape our programme, with the aim of inspiring and empowering Oslo’s young generation.

UNG After Hours
A new concept where we invite young creatives and artists to curate their own unique experiences at the museum. It's everything you and your friends love to do – exclusively for young people after the museum’s closing time.

UNG Scene
Showcasing the next generation of live artists across genres by providing a platform where their unique voices can flourish and connect with a wider audience. We create new entry points to art and make music more accessible to young people by offering free concerts.

UNG Workshop
The workshops in 2025 are designed to engage young people in exploring the intersection of fashion, printmaking and crafts. You will learn to create posters and zines, challenge fashion norms, make embroidery and jewellery  and try skateboard design.
